Skills Canada Alberta

The Skills Canada Alberta Website
Challenge:
Content was reaching volumes too high for the existing site to handle. Categories needed to be reestablished in order to accommodate information. Similar content was found on a variety of pages, so there was no clear direction for their various audiences.
Solution:
The Skills Canada Alberta (SCA) website has a number of audiences, all of whom need to access various areas of information. Secondary and post-secondary students interested in competing, teachers wanting to nominate a student for a competition, and parents and family members of competitors looking for photos and event information all needed to be accommodated.

Menus can be filtered in a number of different ways to accommodate the site’s many types of visitors. Events can be searched for by region, by discipline (e.g. welding, autobody repair, graphic design), or by level (regional, provincial, or national). This allows users to browse events according to their interests or location.

The site is designed to communicate the excitement around SCA. The homepage features a countdown to the provincial competition to stir up excitement and anticipation for the event. There are also event photos, alumni profiles, and links to social media feeds. All of these features create a sense of community around SCA, showcasing the benefits of getting involved with the organization and the sense of welcoming and belonging it stands for.
Result:
Since launching, site visits have increased by 79.57% and the number of page views has increased by 94.53%.*
The Skills Canada Alberta website is now more accessible to all of their audiences: students, teachers, parents, and other family members. The site recently served as a major hub of information and excitement for the 2012 provincial and national competitions.
